Uribe, Meta · Colombia
Uribe, a land where paths meet
Uribe, Meta, is where the Andes, the Amazon and the Orinoquía meet. Indigenous trails, quinine, rubber, oil, war and almost every peace process in Colombia have passed through here. Today it welcomes visitors with rivers, waterfalls, coffee and a history told by its own people.

Orinoquía
Three regions, one territory
Where the Andes, the Amazon and the Orinoquía meet
Uribe covers 6,307 km² on the foothills of the Eastern Cordillera. Its territory includes parts of the Sumapaz, Cordillera de Los Picachos and Tinigua national natural parks.
Andes
The Andean mountains
The slopes of the Eastern Cordillera fall into rivers and waterfalls. This is home to the Seven Waterfalls and Cortinas del Diamante.
Amazon
The Amazon forest
Dense forest, rock and water. The Guape River carves its canyon between green walls, where light pours in through the cracks.
Orinoquía
The Orinoquía plains
Between the Sierra de La Chamuza and the Duda River the land opens into plains, the gateway to llanero culture and the trails of muleteers and settlers.
The trails of Uribe
A history told by its own people
The trails that link Huila, Tolima and the eastern plains cross Uribe. Each one left a mark. Today you walk them with guides born here.
Before it all
Indigenous trails
The peoples who lived in this territory carved petroglyphs into the rock. You can still see them at the Moyas de Santa Rita.
19th century
Quinine and rubber
The Compañía Colombia harvested quinine and rubber forests and opened a trail from the old Tolima to the plains of San Martín. The town carries the surname of Antonio Uribe, one of its partners.
20th century
Oil and settlers
The search for oil opened the roads that reach Uribe today. From 1960 on, settler families populated the region and farmed its different climate zones.
1984 to 2016
A territory of peace
In 1984 the ceasefire between the Colombian Government and the FARC was signed in Uribe. The town was part of the 1998 demilitarized zone and lived the 2016 Peace Agreement up close.
Today
Rivers, waterfalls, coffee and people
Young people, guides and farming families open their trails to visitors. Places that stayed closed for years now welcome those who come to see them.
